Substance Abuse & Domestic Violence

Substance Abuse & Domestic Violence

No CEU's Offered with this Course

This course will present an overview of the issues likely to affect survivors of domestic violence who are also seeking treatment for substance abuse. Holistic care is possible only when clinical counselors, pastoral caregivers, family and friends understand the profound effect of domestic violence on a survivor. Recognizing good holistic care is also important for supporting people looking for help. Additional victims of domestic violence are the children in these families. This course will cover the emotional and behavioral effects of violence on children. And finally, an overview of the batterers themselves will be presented, along with the reasons why substance abuse counselors and other caregivers must not ignore the domestic violence and abusive behaviors of people who batter their partners.
