Ethical Responsibility

As addiction professionals we have the ethical responsibility to have a degree of understanding of how culture impacts addiction among the various people groups that we work with.

This course seeks to shed light on various cultural issues of three distinct people groups in the U.S.: African Americans, Native Americans and Latino Americans. This brief introductory course by leading addiction experts is meant to stimulate further study and research into this rich and meaningful aspect of our selves and others.

Culture deeply impacts how an individual becomes addicted as well as influences their unique recovery experience and process.

COURSE GOAL

This course covers articles by experts in the addition field who work with specific populations. The goal is to expose the student to the dynamics of culture and addiction within these groups while also enlarging the perspective that everyone has a ‘cultural mindset’.
